Personalidad unit

In this unit students will meet the following objectives:

  • Students will be able to give simple descriptions.
  • Students will be able to ask and tell what someone's personality is like.
  • Students will be able to describe their personality.

Que te gusta hacer unit

In this unit we will be learning the following:

Unit Standards:
Communicative and cultural objectives:
Communication: Interpersonal-Students will be able to ask and tell what they and others like to do and dislike doing.
Students will be able to express agreement as others share what they like and dislike doing.
Interpretive-Students will be able to comprehend while listening to information about likes and dislikes.
Presentational-Students will be able to express orally and in writing what activities they and others like and dislike.
Culture-Students will be able to identify different types of dances in Spanish speaking countries.

Connections- Students will be able to identify cognates while reading to improve comprehension.

Comparisons: Students will be able to compare infinitive verbs in Spanish and English to gain a deeper understanding of both language structures.

Communities: Students will create advertisements for the Hispanic Heritage Fiesta to advertise activities one likes and can participate in.


We are on a modified schedule so this unit will extend into next week.

Week 2 unit 2

We will begin our next unit on Greetings and courtesy expressions on Wednesday after the test.
The objectives for this unit are as follows:

MLI.IP1 The students exchange simple spoken and written information in the target language, utilizing cultural references where appropriate.
The students: A. Use basic greetings, farewells, and expressions of courtesy, in both oral and written forms.

For the first part of the unit we will cover the vocabulary for greetings, goodbyes and courtesy
 expressions. The following section of vocabulary is what students are responsible for:

There will be a quiz that includes listening and reading  with matching responses.
Students will have homework for this unit that goes beyond studying. Please make sure students are studying. You have to study. Make flashcards, use quizlet, and read over the notes.

Week of 4/28

Students will continue learning to make sentences with -ar verbs. We will have a quiz on Monday, May 4.
Reteaching on subject pronouns will also take place for those who didn't understand the concept.

The project for this verbs unit will be a children's book. Students will write simple children's books using ar verbs and other previously learned vocabulary.
This project will be due Monday, May 4.

Week of April 13

This week we will learn subject pronouns in Spanish. Students were given a vocabulary sheet with the subject pronouns and their English translations. Students were also given the opportunity to write them down if they lost the sheets.
We created foldables with definitions and examples. All students should have those, I didn't keep them.

We will have a quiz after EOG testing on Thursday April 23, 2015. Students should begin studying now.

The test will assess the following objectives:
Students will be able to discuss who is performing an action in Spanish.
Students will be able to correctly use ar verbs in the present tense.

We will only meet every other day during testing. We will review the concepts on Wednesday after testing.

Week of 3/23/15

Students are wrapping up the Unit on describing personality.
A choice project is due on Wednesday. We are going to the lab on Monday and Wednesday so students have the opportunity to finish in class.
The quiz for this unit is Wednesday and will administered using Quia.com in the lab. Students will only have one opportunity to log in and complete the quiz.

Spanish Connections week of 2/2/15

This week students will turn in their body projects on Monday.

  • We will learn the Spanish alphabet, days, months, and how to ask and tell the date in Spanish.
  • Students will create foldables to help them study.
  • Students will research important dates in Spanish-speaking countries.
  • Students will have a quiz on this week's concepts on Friday
  • Please make sure your child studies nightly to prepare for the quiz on Friday.
Vocabulary and notes follow;

* Spanish days and months are not capitalized.
* The Spanish week begins on Monday on the calendar.
* The first day of the month is called the first = January 1= el primero de enero.

To say the date in Spanish use the following phrase:

el + day(#) + de+ month
Example: February 14 in Spanish would be el 14 de febrero (the 14th of February)
                October 8 in Spanish would be el 8 de octubre (the 8th of October.
